Major Changes: 4X Stronger

B.S. in Communication Splits Into Four Majors to Better Serve Students
The School of Communication is exciting to announce a major transformation. Our former concentrations in advertising, digital video production, multimedia journalism, and public relations are now fully recognized majors, giving students clearer academic paths and enhanced professional opportunities.
The four new Bachelor of Science degrees are: B.S. in Advertising, B.S. in Digital Video Production, B.S. in Multimedia Journalism, and B.S. in Public Relations. The longstanding Bachelor of Science in Communication degree, which has existed for more than 20 years, is being fazed out.
Juniors and Seniors who are already declared B.S. in Communication majors will still be able to finish out their degree. However, Freshmen and Sophomores will select one of the new degrees (B.S. in Advertising, B.S. in Digital Video Production, B.S. in Multimedia Journalism, and B.S. in Public Relations).
This change will allow each field of study to more fully come into its own. Students now have the opportunity to take more specialized courses in their specific field. The School of Communication’s Professional Advisory Board, which is made up of communication executives, endorsed the decision, saying it will help with employability. The new majors also support the strategic plans of 成人AV视频 and the state university system.
The change in majors will not affect the School of Communication’s status with its accreditor, the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications.
Anyone who has questions about the new majors can contact the Director of the School of Communication, Dr. John Parmelee, at jparmele@unf.edu.
