International Internships

One of the most effective ways to learn about business practices internationally is to participate in an internship overseas. Many international internship companies charge high fees to place students and provide support while they are abroad.  The programs below have been selected and verified by the Coggin College of Business International Business Flagship Program to provide a more economical way to intern abroad and earn credit toward your degree.

Global Engagement Institute (GEI)

Location

Kenya (similar programs are available in Thailand, Ghana, and South Africa)

Time Frame

4, 6, or 8 weeks during the summer:

  • June 3-July 2, 2027 (4 weeks)
  • June 3-July 16, 2027 (6 weeks)
  • June 3-July 30, 2027 (8 weeks)

Description
Build real-world impact in Nairobi's social enterprise ecosystem
The places students and early-career professionals inside one of Africa's most dynamic startup and social enterprise scenes. With a 4-, 6-, or 8-week placement, participants work alongside vetted Nairobi-based organizations solving real challenges in areas like clean energy, sustainable sanitation, cleantech, and inclusive business.

Beyond the placement itself, the program surrounds interns with a fuller experience: professional development visits across Nairobi's "Silicon Savannah", mentorship from working practitioners, and cultural and community immersion. Through hands-on, project-driven work and guided reflection, participants build practical skills, intercultural competence, and the entrepreneurial mindset to lead change - all while contributing meaningfully to their host organization.  Highlights include the following:
  • Placement with a vetted Kenyan social enterprise or startup, matched to your background and interests
  • Professional development and site visits across Nairobi's entrepreneurship and social innovation ecosystem
  • Cultural and community immersion, from Kenya's landscapes to living Maasai heritage
  • Mentorship, structured reflection sessions, and a capstone portfolio demonstrating your project outputs and growth

Placement

 GEI will place you with a vetted Kenyan social enterprise or startup, matched to your background and interests

Cost/Payment

You will pay a program fee to GEI - $2,850 (4 weeks), $3,950 (6 weeks), or $5,050 (8 weeks)* - that covers the following:

  • Housing
  • Pre-departure advising
  • Airport transfers
  • Orientation
  • Professional development site visits
  • Culture & community excursions
  • 24/7 onsite emergency support
  • Placement and supervision at a host organization
  • Weekly meetings with an internship supervisor

*A $300 deposit is due once you begin registration with GEI, and the remaining balance is due by April 1.

You will pay for the following items separately and on your own:

  • Round-trip airfare (estimated at $1,600)
  • Electronic Travel Authorization or ETA (estimated at $30)
  • Meals (estimated at $200 per month)
  • Chubb international health insurance (estimated at $1.45 per day)
  • 成人AV视频 tuition/fees for the 3-credit internship course (regular tuition rate)

Approval

 This internship is pre-approved to count toward the International Business internship/career preparation requirement, the Economics internship course, and the Entrepreneurship internship course.  For additional major/minor internship course approvals, contact coggin.internships@unf.edu.  To receive academic credit, you must also complete the application for academic credit for the summer term: /coggin/students/internship-course.html.

Requirements
  • Junior or senior degree-seeking business student
  • Planning to enroll in the Coggin College of Business internship course

German American Exchange (GAE)

Location

Germany

Time Frame

Three months: mid-May through mid-August

Description

German American Exchange enables American students to complete an internship and to spend time in Germany during the career-planning phase of their early lives.  Especially for young Americans, it is important to get an insight and a clearer understanding of Germany´s economic and business role within the European Union.  This highly competitive internship includes

  • Get-togethers in Berlin and Munich with travel covered by the host company
  • Pre-departure orientation provided by GAE

Placement

 GAE facilitates a match between the company and you, then you will interview for the position.  Placement is not guaranteed.  The host companies make the final decisions on hiring.

Cost/Payment

As a hired intern, you are paid at least 934 Euros per month by your host company. 

As part of the application process, you pay the following:

  1. application fee of $50 (all applicants)
  2. processing fee of $150 (only if an internship is secured)

Additionally, you will pay for all of the other direct costs associated with living abroad for three months, such as flights, housing, international health insurance, food, etc.

Approval

 This program is approved to count toward the International Business internship/career preparation requirement. Minimum

  • Intermediate knowledge of German language
  • Junior or senior degree-seeking student
  • Business major (academic credit awarded on a case-by-case basis)

Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) Research Internship

Location

Seoul, South Korea

Time Frame

Four weeks: mid/late July through mid/late August

Description

The provides an opportunity for you to engage in hands-on research within a globally recognized academic environment. You will work under the guidance of leading researchers while gaining practical experience in your field of study. This program is designed for students seeking to enhance their research skills and deepen their academic knowledge while experiencing life in South Korea.

Note: This opportunity is only available as part of SKKU's summer program.  You must enroll in two other SKKU summer courses to participate.

Placement

 Research lab placements are subject to availability, and matching is not guaranteed. If SKKU is unable to place you in a suitable lab, the internship course fee will be fully refunded.  

Cost/Payment

If hired, you are not paid by SKKU. 

As part of the application process, you pay the following:

  1. program fee of 600,000 KRW (about $450)
  2. program fee of 2,800,000 KRW (about $2,000) for the other two courses in the summer program
